This is a blog about self-discovery. Let me say I am still figuring this shit out, I don’t have the answers, I’m just doing the best I can with what I know and what I have learnt and continue to learn. It’s about the journey I’m taking to make things happen. I am not offering a grand proven plan to success, riches, fulfillment and happiness. This is a warts and all, no bullshit account of what I have been through, where I am going and what I am doing right now to get there. This is about the struggles and triumphs of the process of becoming, what I believe is, a modern gentleman.
A bit about me.
I have always been interested in personal development, I was always allured by the promises of wealth, confidence, success and pretty much whatever else they were selling! I never really committed to it and just picked the easy, likable bits and sidestepped the tough, unpleasant, and probably, the most important bits. This is why it never stuck and I would always find an excuse not to do something or to do something more fun. Who knows where I could have been if I had taken the tough road instead of the easy! Let me say in no way do I regret any of the decisions I have made, but if I could have a conversation with myself a decade ago I would have a lot to say and possibly a punch to throw.
I had never truly focused on personal development until my girlfriend sent me the link to this Nike commercial.
This changed everything, this commercial got me fired up and I started to believe I could do it all. I now know it takes hard work, a shit load, to get to where you want to go. I’m now in the thick of it, I’m in the trenches.
The purpose of this blog
Portray an unedited version of my process and hopefully those reading this will relate. You may wonder why I don’t just keep a personal journal. There are two reasons why I have decided to share this through a blog:
- To share my experiences and what I’m trying to do to evolve, and in the process continue to learn and possibly help others who may be going through similar things.
- By putting this out into the world I will owe it to whoever reads it to stick to what I say, in order for myself and the readers to hold me accountable.
The content of this blog:
Things I have personally dealt with:
- Getting treatment (Rehab, Therapy)
- And the stigma surrounding these.
As well as what I am currently doing/trying to improve:
- Finding your purpose.
No man is born a gentleman, it’s cultivated over time. Therefore conquering these challenges and defining a strategy to improve are paramount to my interpretation of the modern Gentleman. He must also be a man of impeccable taste. I will therefore also be discussing style, architecture and design.
A modern gentleman should be calm in all situations and carry himself with dignity and class, all while wearing a well fitted suit!
I have been inspired in many different ways by many different people. If they have been able to help me, I’m sure they will do the same for you. I will share all the books, podcasts, articles and anything else that has helped me on my journey.
Let me say I am not a success yet and I don’t have it all figured out, but with patient and consistent effort anything is possible!
